The Path to Excellence – Phase Two
The Path to Excellence has started early work on Phase Two of the programme for three areas of hospital care. The areas of care are:
- Acute medicine and emergency care
- Emergency surgery
- Planned care including surgery and outpatient care
Work is now underway to engage with local doctors, nurses, NHS staff and patients in South Tyneside and Sunderland
Since December 2017, staff in both hospital Trusts have been coming together to begin to share their views about the challenges being faced by the above services.
This work will help us to understand how we can improve the quality of care being delivered to patients and to discuss the issues facing the long-term sustainability of services to ensure we can meet the needs of our local population both now and in the future.
This work is at a very early stage and we are working with staff in both Trusts to put together a draft ‘case for change’ document for Phase Two which will explain why these services need to change. We plan to formally launch and share this document with all stakeholders over late summer 2018.
In the meantime, as well as talking to our NHS staff to understand the issues, challenges and ideas for improvement, we also want to make sure we capture the views and experiences of patients who have recently used hospital services in South Tyneside and Sunderland.
Listening phase – take our patient experience surveys
From 11 May 2018, any patients who have used the above hospital services in the past two years may start to receive a survey in the post and we welcome responses from other members of the public who have experience of the above services in the past two years.
The surveys closed at midnight on Monday 11th June 2018.
The Path to Excellence Phase Two – Easy Read version draft issues document
This document is an Easy Read version of the issues document. It talks about why we are doing this work and some of the challenges faced by these hospital services. It uses words and pictures to make the information easier to read and understand.
