The Path to Excellence programme regularly hosts public events as part of our work. Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic we currently have no planned events but we will be looking to arrange some in future.
Please come back to this page to find out more about the events when they are scheduled.
Below details previous Path to Excellence involvement activity.

‘Join our journey’ roadshows
From Thursday 17 October 2019 staff, patients and members of the public were able to join a series of NHS ‘Join of Journey’ drop-in roadshows to find out more about Phase Two of Path to Excellence and the region’s Integrated Care System and how NHS organisations are working together.
People were able to share what makes them most proud of the NHS, where they would like to see improvements and what concerns them the most about the future. For those who could not attend a roadshow, a short online survey was made available for people to feedback views.
March 2019 roadshow
Throughout March 2019 a further period of involvement was held to actively seek views from staff, patient groups and wider stakeholders on what is important to local people, and why, when accessing hospital care. Working together with Healthwatch South Tyneside and Healthwatch Sunderland, a series of drop-in roadshows took place.
People were able to find out more about why hospital services must change, hear about the ‘Updated Draft Case for Change’ and complete a short survey. The NHS encouraged as many people as possible to get involved and share their views. An online survey and new video animation were also made available online for those who cannot attend a drop-in roadshow.
Staff working in South Tyneside and Sunderland hospitals also had the opportunity to feedback their views during dedicated staff engagement events which were held at the end of March. Healthcare leaders also attended a series of key stakeholder meetings.
Our journey roadshow 2018
From Saturday 13 October 2018 and over the following eight weeks, we were out and about visiting local communities, speaking to patients using local hospitals and healthcare services and attending a series of key stakeholder meetings to share our draft ‘Case for Change’ for Phase Two and help people understand why local hospital services must change for the future.
Our planned activity aimed to socialise the issues, explain the current gaps in quality, and allow an opportunity for patients and the public to understand why we must change and share their views on what’s important to them when accessing hospital services and receiving hospital care. It also provided stakeholders and the public with opportunities to influence the process, providing decision makers with valuable insight about the draft ‘Case for Change’.
